Shonda Rhimes Responds to Critics Who Want Jesse Williams Fired from GREY'S ANATOMY

Jesse Williams gave a powerful speech about inequality at the BET Awards last week that people are still talking about. What followed next was a rash of criticism from some angry Grey’s Anatomy fans who described his comments as a “racist rant” in a petition on Change.org that is calling to have Williams fired from his role on the ABC hit show.

The petition begins, “Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions.”

The petition, as of this writing, had 2,161 signatures.

A counter-petition in support of Williams and his speech was started on Change.org as well with over 17,550 signatures.

What does Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy have to say about all this? Is she going to fire Jesse Williams? Well, the Queen has spoken and it goes something like this...

On July 4 at 5:16pm, Ms. Rhimes tweeted this message from her Twitter page: Um, people? Boo don't need a petition. #shondalandrules

So, it appears Williams' job on Grey's Anatomy will be just fine. Not only did Rhimes publicly support Williams' stance, she made sure to let everyone know that she's running the show when it comes to ShondaLand.

That is all.
