‘Marshall’ Trailer: Chadwick Boseman Stars in Courtroom Thriller about Supreme Court Justice Thurgoo

Chadwick Boseman is set to portray another historical figure, this time Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall who is best known for winning the landmark case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, a 1954 decision that served as the catalyst for the desegregation of public schools throughout the United States.

Boseman, along with Josh Gad who portrays lawyer Sam Friedman, star in Marshall which centers on one of the first cases of Marshall’s early career as a young lawyer for the NAACP. The sensational case in 1941 involved Joseph Spell, a black chauffeur (Sterling K. Brown) who was accused by his employer Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson) of sexual assault and attempted murder. Marshall fights the case alongside Friedman, a young Jewish lawyer with no experience in criminal law.

Dan Stevens, James Cromwell, Keesha Sharp also star.

Reginald Hudlin directed Marshall from a script written by lawyer Michael Koskoff and his son, Jacob Koskoff. Paula Wagner, Jonathan Sanger and Hudlin produced the film, with Peter Luo and Belton Lee as executive producers.

The film has the full support of the Marshall and Friedman estates, including their children, John W. Marshall and Lauren Friedman.

Open Road Films has set an October 13 release date.
